Both sets of photos hewre were taken not long after returning to the city from the evacuation. The New Orleans photos are primarily of the Lakeview area, and NOT the Lower 9 or the East, because they were not open at that point, even to residents. Bay St. Louis is a small, arty community on the Gulf that took a direct hit. A destination for fishing and a quiet weekend, the piers and bridge into town were washed away.
We hestitated to put these up, but it's something we're often asked about. The back and forth about which area got hit hardest/worst/Katrina damage vs. levee failure is devisive and NOT something we want to get into. Whether your home was destroyed by flood, wind, or a tree falling on it makes little difference to the person trying to put their life back together, and we're providing these just to give people who haven't seen it firsthand what it was/is like. |
